12.18.09_Closed for the Holidays.

The final client packages are in the mail, all the sittings are edited...and now it's time for a long winter's nap! OK, maybe not a nap with three kids around...what about a trip to warmer environs? That'll work!

As of today, Friday, December 18th, 2009, we will be closed for holiday vacation until Monday, January 4th, 2010 in order to take time to visit and celebrate with family and friends.  While on vacation, our email and voicemail will be returned as quickly as possible (when one is in vacation-mode!). 

Email is always the best way to reach us. Orders will still be accepted through the web gallery but delivery time will be delayed slightly because of the restricted holiday hours of our office and our professional labs.

PS. What blog post would be complete without a photo!?!? Here's a shot from LAST Christmas in Miami...Henry was certainly the best present of '08...wonder what's in store for '10??? (Beckie may have an idea or two!)

02.06.09_Save the Date.

Mark you calendar!!! 

I've just flushed out my spring calendar and will be offering a Spring Portraits in the Park weekend April 25th and 26th weekend. 

Ahh, doesn't that just feel better to THINK a little about spring even if it isn't here yet? I think so!

Locations are still TBD but I will probably do one day at Larz Anderson for a traditional park setting and one day at the Boston Common for a more urban option in the streets on Beacon Hill. Both mini sessions and full sessions will be available. Email me if you want to hold your date & time now but expect a newsletter reminder headed your way in March!

Don't forget, there is a $50 studio credit for anyone your refer for these (or any other) sittings!

01.26.09_One of my Favorites: NYT January 22, 2009.

I love this shot from the front page of the New York Times last week. One of my goals it to seek inspiration for a variety of media around me - not just looking at other wedding & portrait photographer's work but at the world around me. Movies, newspapers, graphic design...

On a serious note, the photo speaks to how important photography is to our history. What we will remember. What will be preserved.

But on the other hand, it makes me laugh that THREE photographers are hovering over this pen at the same time! Makes me thinks of all those detail shots I shoot at weddings! The details, the little things, sometimes become the big things you know. 

Lastly...the photographer on the right must have pretty strong neck & shoulder muscles...he's carrying three cameras...two of which have 70-200mm lenses on them. Youch!

Where do you find inspiration for your work? Don't forget to look outside the box!

01.20.09_Oh Shoot!

I spent the weekend in Mystic CT at a photography conference. I have a lot to chew on (as I usually do when I force myself to get out of the office and take a good hard look at my business). 

One of the points that drove home for me speaker after speaker is not to let my craft get stale. Take a step back and really LOOK at my work, my surroundings and to really use my eye.

As most of you know, I don't have a ton of free time. Between work, family and trying to take care of myself time flies (it does for all of us, no?) but today I forced myself to bring my camera with me for a few hours - no excuses. Here are a few images I snapped on my way to pick up Caitlin at school.

It only took a few moments out of my usual routine but it was really enlightening. One, it forced me to slow down and really look at my surroundings. Two, it got my creative juices flowing! Three, it was fun. My goal is to bring my camera with me (for non-work purposes) at least once a week! Check back for some more updates!

-If you are a client, and a friend or family member orders from your gallery, you get a $10 credit to be used towards your gallery or future sitting fee. There is NO LIMIT to how many credits you can receive so be sure to spread the word about the sale!
